Toni Jennings was Florida’s first female Lieutenant Governor, the youngest woman ever elected to the Florida Legislature and the first female Republican leader of either house of the Legislature. She also served an unprecedented two consecutive terms as president of the Florida State Senate from 1996 - 2000. Ms. Jennings is among the most prominent public figures in Florida’s history, dedicating nearly 30 years to the citizens of Florida and making a lasting mark on the state by shaping policy initiatives important to Floridians.
Ms. Jennings is committed to civic duty, serving on various community boards and commissions over the past several decades. She chaired the Florida Chamber of Commerce and Workforce Florida, Inc. She also currently serves on the boards of Brown & Brown, Inc., Florida Power & Light Group, Nemours, and SunTrust Bank Central Florida. Prior to the OneBlood merger, Ms. Jennings served on the board of directors for Florida’s Blood Centers.
Jennings’ achievements have been acknowledged with numerous awards and recognitions, including being named to the Florida Women’s Hall of Fame. She has also received the “Florida Guardian of Small Business” award from the National Federation of Independent Businesses, the “Distinguished Service” award from the Florida Economic Development Council, the “Distinguished Women” award from the Florida League of Women Voters, the “Friend of the First Amendment,” awarded to Jennings twice by the First Amendment Foundation and the “Friend of Education” award from the Florida School Boards Association.
Ms. Jennings currently serves as chairman of the board for Jack Jennings & Sons Inc. A commercial construction company founded by her father in 1948, which has been a long-standing corporate citizen serving the Central Florida area for more than 60 years.
Ms. Jennings received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wesleyan College, graduating cum laude.
