As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Reik provides leadership for OneBlood’s highly trained and experienced medical staff, serving as a liaison between the medical and executive teams.  She advocates for our patients, donors and community physicians and sets the strategic direction for the medical, scientific, research and educational functions of OneBlood.

Dr. Reik attended the University of Miami Miller School Of Medicine and received her residency and blood bank training at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital.  She did additional Fellowship training in Forensic Pathology at the Broward Medical Examiners’ Office in Fort Lauderdale.  She is Board-certified in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, Forensic Pathology and Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine.  She was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society during her medical training and the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society at the University of Miami.  She also served as the President of the University of Miami Medical Women’s group and was Vice-President of the South Florida Society of Pathologists. 

Dr. Reik has over 20 years’ experience in blood/banking and transfusion medicine, having worked at the American Red Cross National Headquarters as Senior Medical Officer, and as the Chief Medical Officer of the Pacific Northwest Region.  She additionally held the position of National Director for the American Red Cross Center for Cell Therapy.  Dr. Reik also held the position of Transfusion Service Medical Director for Memorial Healthcare System in Broward County, and was on the Board of Directors for Community Blood Centers of South Florida.  She has authored textbook chapters on cell therapy and tissue banking, and published journal articles on topics in HIV infection, pediatric pathology, donor eligibility and stem cells.

She is currently a member of AABB, the American Medical Association and a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists, among others.  In the past, she has served on the ARC/FDA Interdisciplinary Task for Development of the Uniform Donor History Questionnaire and currently sits on the ABC Task Force for Zika virus, the Florida Department of Health Arbovirus Task Force, and the Medical Advisory Committee for Centralized Testing Solutions.  She is a Principal Investigator for the NIH/NHLBI Transfusion-Transmitted Infectious Marker Study.  Her special interests include Patient Blood Management, Cellular Therapy and the impact of new emerging diseases on the blood supply.

As part of her commitment to the community, Dr. Reik runs a non-profit foundation that rescues horses.  In addition, she actively advocates for federal and state  legislation related to equine welfare and global food safety.
