OneBlood Prepares to Send Blood to Texas

OneBlood Sends First Shipment of Blood to Texas

OneBlood Sends First Shipment of Blood to Texas Increase in Local Donations Urgently Needed

(Orlando, Florida - August 28, 2017)  More than 100 units of blood are on its way to Texas from OneBlood.  The local not-for-profit blood center serving the southeastern United States is stepping in to help after devastating floods, massive destruction and record-setting rainfall is preventing blood centers in the Lone Star state from being able to collect blood.  OneBlood says it will continue to send blood to Texas until further notice.

To ensure enough blood is available locally and for Texas, OneBlood is urging all eligible donors to donate blood as soon as possible. While all blood types are needed, there is an urgent call for O negative and O positive blood, as well as platelets and plasma donations.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), OneBlood and other blood centers are working with Blood Centers of America (BCA) and America’s Blood Centers to provide the blood that is needed.

For more information about the national effort for blood donations to assist Texas please refer to the press release from the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB).
