OneBlood Sending Blood to Las Vegas After Mass Shooting

OneBlood Sending Blood to Las Vegas After Mass Shooting

(Orlando, Florida – October 2, 2017)  As the details of the Las Vegas, Nevada mass shooting emerge, it is yet another reminder of why a ready blood supply is so vital.

OneBood reached out to the blood center in Nevada early this morning to let them know we stand ready to assist if they need help.  We are in the process of preparing a shipment of blood and platelets to be sent to them as soon as possible and remain on standby to assist further if needed.

OneBlood encourages all eligible blood donors to make blood donation a regular part of their lives.  This will enable a ready blood supply locally and for OneBlood to help wherever the need may arise.

Generally healthy people age 16 or older who weigh at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Photo ID is required. To learn more about the importance of blood donation and how donors can target the power of their blood type visit oneblood.org. All donors receive a wellness checkup of blood pressure, pulse, temperature and iron count, including a cholesterol screening, plus a surprise gift.

One of three people will need blood in their lifetime. Blood that is donated today will likely be transfused within two to three days. The turn-around is that fast, the need is constant.
