Ready To Become a Blood Donor?

Donating blood is a quick and easy way to make a lifesaving impact. Here is everything you need to know before, during, and after you donate blood. By familiarizing yourself with the process, you can confidently begin your OneBlood donation journey!

Before Your Donation

Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids in the days leading up to your donation to ensure you are hydrated.

Eat a nutritious meal: Prior to donating, have a balanced meal that includes iron-rich foods to help maintain your iron levels.

Bring identification: Remember to bring valid identification to your donation appointment. If you are 16 years old (in NC 16 or 17 years old) you need this parental consent form.

Review eligibility criteria: Familiarize yourself with the eligibility requirements to ensure you meet the necessary criteria.

 During Your Donation

Registration: Have your photo ID ready, and fill out the private Donor Health Questionnaire (DHQ).

Health Screening: Complete a basic wellness check, including blood pressure, temperature, and hemoglobin levels to confirm your eligibility.

Donation: Sit back, relax, and save lives! The process typically takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Try to wear comfortable clothing with short sleeves.

Rest & Refreshment: After your donation, replenish fluids and restore your energy with a complimentary snack. This is also a good time to read through your donor take-home instructions.

Take a donation selfie to commemorate your meaningful accomplishment with friends and family! Don't forget to use #oneblood when you post!
