Blood and Platelet Donations Needed Following Hurricane Helene

(Orlando, Florida September 27, 2024) There is an urgent call for blood and platelet donations following Hurricane Helene. While all blood types are needed, there is an urgent need for Platelet donors as well as for O Negative and O Positive blood donors.

“The majority of OneBlood’s service area is operational.  Our donor centers are open and the Big Red Buses are out in force for blood drives.  We are urging people who are eligible to donate blood or platelets to please do so as soon as possible. The need for blood never stops. It’s important that people who are eligible to donate please do so as soon as possible to help ensure a ready supply at all times,” said Susan Forbes, OneBlood senior vice president of corporate communications and public relations.

OneBlood encourages all eligible donors to visit a donor center or Big Red Bus blood drive to ensure blood is available for patients in need.

OneBlood is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) community asset responsible for providing safe, available and affordable blood to more than 300 hospital partners and their patients throughout Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama.  OneBlood operates more than 90 donor centers and deploys nearly 250 Big Red Bus bloodmobiles throughout the southeastern United States for blood drives. Generally healthy people age 16 or older who weigh at least 110 pounds can donate blood. To learn more about OneBlood visit www.oneblood.org.
