I have had the pleasure of donating and receiving. I work on a postpartum floor and we give units of blood to patients, so I always felt I should donate. As soon as the emails, texts, and phone call reminders would roll in I would make an appointment. The last time I donated was December 2019.

March 2020 I found out I was pregnant with my second child. My first was a rather uncomplicated routine pregnancy, and this one was the same, up until delivery.

I had a complete abruption at 28 weeks (August 30th 2020) where my placenta detached and I started hemorrhaging. The stars aligned and baby and I were in the right place, right time, and we both survived.

I survived because of donors. The gift of donation is so powerful. I always just thought it was a nice thing to do, but it saved my life. I got many different types of blood products: plasma, platelets, albumin, and packed red blood cells to name a few. In fact, I think I got around 14 units of packed red blood cells. My son also received two units while in the NICU, one immediately after birth.

I am a mother/wife/daughter/sister/aunt/niece/nurse who was saved due to the selfless gift of blood donation. Thank you for donating.
