I had never donated blood before 2008. The needles scared me, and I didn’t understand the impact blood donation had on saving lives.
In 2008 after I had my son, there were some complications and I had lost too much blood. I was placed in the PCU for two weeks after I had given birth. It was a very touch-and-go situation. I remember them telling me I needed a blood transfusion. I signed the paperwork and they brought in a bag of blood.
I remember thinking in the hospital that if the person who donated this blood had felt the way I did, I wouldn’t be here to raise my son.
After the transfusion and once I was cleared, I started donating blood in hopes that I could save people that were in need like I was.
