On 9/11/2001 tragedy hit our Country. On that day, my children and I went to the blood bank with the intent on me donating. My children, at that time, were not old enough to donate; however, the gift they gave was incredible. Pizza, drinks, cookies, etc... were available for all donors (and there were a lot). My children tended to the needs of those waiting (and those in the process of donating). They provided them food, drink and polite conversation. They cleaned up the trash people left, and even added ice to the coolers storing the blood. More than one person came up to me that day and told me that the only reason they were willing to wait that long was because my kids were there helping tirelessly hour, after hour, after hour. They were little, but they were mighty! The staff also stated that the day wouldn't have gone as smoothly as it did had it not been for them. I was their last donation for the day, after spending over eight hours there supporting the staff. I'm proud of that, and I'm proud of my children!
Yesterday I donated platelets. Today my daughter Sarah is donating platelets -- on this 22nd anniversary. We're still giving and we hope you do too!
To the staff at the Lake Mary One Blood, we thank you for always being so incredible. Charlie, Walter and Alberto, you make this experience as comfortable as possible, and for that, we thank you! You three really do go above and beyond!
