Avalynn was born in November of 2013 and was growing into a healthy, smart and energetic toddler. However, just two months after her second birthday she became very ill. Avalynn was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
Within hours of the diagnosis, the once energetic toddler needed two blood transfusions and began chemotherapy to fight the disease. During her two-and-half years of treatment, she received 36 blood transfusions to help keep her alive. By the time her chemotherapy was complete, she’d spent 848 days in treatment and stayed in the hospital for more than 40 nights. During that time she received 789 doses of chemotherapy, 128 days of steroids and was placed under anesthesia 28 times. Numbers no parent wants to think about for their child.
