When I spoke at an “All Hands On” meeting at the Saufley Field Naval Training Center, I began with a simple question. I asked, “How many of you have received blood?” A few hands went up in the room of about 150 civilian and active service employees. I then told them, “I’m a recipient, and it’s because of blood donors that I am here to function in this job, be a friend to you, be part of my family and a citizen in this community. I’m here today to ask you to become a blood donor.”
I have a degenerative back disease and had multiple surgeries in which I received blood transfusions. I’m here to tell my story because of great medical care and blood donors. According to the Base Command, she gets the blood donors thinking about the importance of blood donations to our community.
