Dan H.

Beaufort, South Carolina

While Dan was being treated for a colon bleed at Beaufort Memorial Hospital, things unexpectedly took a turn for the worse. He suffered a massive hemorrhage, and he needed blood fast.

“An IV in the arm wasn’t going to work,” Dan said. “They inserted a central line into my femoral artery because it could accept it quicker.”

Dan I am OneBlood March 2020

He received four pints of blood in just 10 minutes.

After a successful colon resection surgery to stop the potentially life-threatening bleeding, Dan was able to make a full recovery and was back work and playing drums in his band in just 10 weeks.

But the severity of the situation and the generosity of those strangers who gave the blood he received was not lost on Dan.

“In four days, I received 11 pints. That’s a lot of blood. The blood was available, and I was very grateful. My goal is to give 11 pints of blood back.”
-Dan
