Hi, I am Dimitris, and I used to donate blood when I was younger. After years of not following up, I met my better half in 2019.
Her name is Elena, and she has a heart condition that became very serious. At one point, I was looking at her on an ICU bed for days during the pandemic, all plugged into IVs, blood transfusions, and so many other sensors.
I realized that I don't have any of the superpowers I always believed I had.
I then read online that there is a strong demand for blood products, that we are having a low donor turnout and low national blood inventory as a result of the pandemic, and it was shocking to me.
I looked inside me and realized that I could do something for her and many others. I could donate my own blood as many times as possible!
So here we are, two years later. Elena and I are married now, we are both very healthy, and our wish is to stay healthy so I can keep donating my blood as long as I can.
