My daughter, Amanda, my son, Philip, and I had been scheduling our platelet donations together at the Missouri Avenue Donor Center for many months, maybe even years. In 2008, my son was diagnosed with a massive brain tumor. The tumor was removed, but the pre-surgery coma has left him unable to communicate with us in any way.
Donating blood has been very important to both my daughter and my son. We used to have such great laughs together as we were all lined up giving our life-giving products.
Amanda and I have continued to donate and remember our times together donating with Philip as very special times.
For Philip, donating was an important way to help others. Since Philip's tumor and surgery, donating has become not only a way to help others, but a way of fondly remembering special times with my son and daughter. I've included a photo of us before Philip's surgery where we are wearing our T-shirts and celebrating on our pool deck!
