I am a lifetime blood donor. I've been doing this since high school in 1987 (it may have been 1986, difficult to recall). One of our class officers was a volunteer at Miller Memorial Blood Donor Center in Bethlehem, PA, and she brought a blood drive to our school.
I was just a skinny, long-haired kid with a short attention span back then. As I came due for other donations, I drove to the donor center if we weren't having another drive at the school.
I continued donating for years after, through local community programs or with the Army (1989-2005, hoorah) in just about every state I lived in or country I was posted to. I reckon I'll keep donating as long as my blood is of use to somebody.
