Karin

Bonita Springs, Florida

On October 12, 2001, I gave birth to my first child.

It was a normal pregnancy but the difficult delivery resulted in an emergency C-Section which turned into an emergency hysterectomy due to a severe case of placenta accreta. I completed bleed out twice.

The second time was to the extent that every vein my body had completely collapsed except for the artery connecting my heart to my brain.

Karin

It was the only thing keeping me alive. The doctors do not know how I survived that day. I was awake through the entire ordeal until they did the hysterectomy.

I woke up 3 days later to fully understand what had happened and how much blood and platelets were needed to save my life. I am forever grateful to the doctors, nurses, and blood donors who came together to save my life and allow me to subsequently adopt a daughter from Kazahkstan and see both of my children enter high school this fall. God bless.
