When I was in college, I started donating blood regularly. Then, 10 years later, I had to stop when I was diagnosed with Glioblastoma – brain cancer in the final stage.
After that, everything was just the opposite. Instead of donating blood, I need it, especially platelets. There was a moment when it was almost impossible to get blood. Especially when I was flatlined for a few minutes. I kept praying that someone would come and help by donating blood.
Fast forward, I had a second chance to live. I'm a cancer survivor, and I am beyond grateful for that. When I moved to the United States in 2015 and I got a green light from my doctors, I started donating blood again.
This time it feels different, I feel much happier and cannot wait for my next blood appointment. Now I have become a long-distance runner, and I still do what I love most: donate blood!
