Twenty-two year Navy veteran Otto has been fighting Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) for 18 years. Because of the disease, his bone marrow no longer makes healthy red blood cells and he needs blood transfusions regularly. So far he has received 458 red blood cell transfusions.
