I give blood every chance I can get. I know that giving blood saves lives because it saved mine.
The instant I was born, I was taken away to be treated for yellow jaundice. The doctors told my mother that I needed a complete transfusion of blood. How fortunate that two things were in my favor: #1 as a newborn, I didn’t need a great deal of blood for a complete transfusion. #2 there was a gentleman with the same blood type as mine who volunteered to share some of his blood with me.
I probably would not be relating this tale, sixty-seven years later, had I not received that gift of life from that man. Please give blood whenever you can. Who knows, you may be a part of someone else’s life story.
