Phil knows first-hand the need for blood; he began giving in high school to help a friend battling leukemia.
“Blood,” says Phil, “kept him with us for a long time. The more blood we have available the more others can join the fight to live longer.”
Recently, a local Police Officer and family friend was shot in the line of duty and needed numerous blood transfusions. When Phil heard he headed to his local donor center.
In the beginning, Phil was a whole blood donor. Then he learned, because of his blood type, his platelets were seriously needed. Now, he donates platelets every two weeks and knows he’s helping cancer, transplant and other patients in need at area hospitals.
Phil’s long-term giving inspired him to become part of the OneBlood Advisory Committee. He attends quarterly meetings and encourages people to donate or help schedule community blood drives. He is a great advocate in the Pensacola community and a true lifesaver.
