I am a 51-year-old mother of 3 amazing daughters, and a retired police officer who experienced a sudden and unexpected internal hemorrhage resulting in the loss of blood that almost took my life.
I had another extremely scary, concerning & unexpected health issue. This time, I experienced an internal hemorrhage and was violently throwing up bright red blood.
Another 911 call and ambulance ride to the hospital and 3 bags of emergency blood transfusions with surgery to cauterize a bleeding ulcer.
The average human has 10 pints of blood in their body - I was down to 4, and my systolic blood pressure went from 128 to 70, putting me in hypotensive crisis. I was experiencing Hemorrhagic shock.
My poor husband has once again been put through the ringer, but per usual stepped up to the plate and took excellent care of me and made a split decision that ultimately, once again, saved my life.
I truly have someone watching over me and a family that fiercely stands behind me. I want to thank my wonderful daughters and their partners who all dropped everything to travel 5 hours to be by my hospital bed and help see me & Mike through this difficult & trying time, my mom and friends who of course offered support and love, & my team of doctors and nurses who tended to me & my family. And a special thank you to all the people who donate blood - it truly makes a difference and saves lives. But especially to my amazing husband who loves me and takes care of me truly in sickness and health. I am blessed, grateful and thankful beyond measure.
I’m now out of the ICU and healing back home with my family. I truly believe in the power of prayer and thank all those who kept me & my family in their thoughts & prayers. My father and daughters are lifelong blood donors. I never expected to be on the receiving end, but am so extremely thankful to those that donate. Thank you!
