Andrew C. Herman, MD is the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics for Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and a Senior Vice President at Carilion Clinic in Roanoke Virginia.
Dr. Herman is a Professor of Pediatrics in Neonatology with Virginia Tech Carilion since June 2025. Prior to his current position, Dr. Herman spent 21 years at Advocate Health (formerly Atrium Health), most notably as Chief Medical Officer for Levine Children’s Hospital and Jeff Gordon Children’s Center.
His appreciation for a ready blood supply for patients became personal in August of 2017 when he was involved in a serious bicycle accident and required multiple blood transfusions due to injuries he sustained. He knows the vital role blood donors played in saving his life and is passionate about encouraging blood donations.
Doctor Herman completed his undergraduate degree at Indiana University, received his medical degree from Saint Louis University followed by a residency in Pediatrics and fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at the University of Virginia.
