OneBlood Celebrates Women in the Blood Industry: Meet Tumaira

During Women’s History Month, we remember powerful women leaders who changed the course of history for women in America. But we also remember women from our local communities who make a difference in our day-to-day lives. Whether you call her mom, sister, or boss, we honor them today and every day!

To celebrate Women’s History Month, we are highlighting a few of the #Shero's on the OneBlood Team who help save lives every day.

Tumaira is a Manager of Donor Services in Northeast Florida. Part of her job is to ensure that her staff meets Quality Assurance standards and implements improvement measures as needed.

Tumaira also focuses on good customer service and verifies that technical skills are performed well by OneBlood Team Members. So all blood donors have a positive donation experience.

What is your role at OneBlood?

I am a Donor Services Manager in Northeast Florida. I oversee both Big Red Busses and OneBlood Donor Center locations.

Tell us about your career journey at OneBlood

I’m new to OneBlood. I started in May of 2020, transitioning from an Operations Director role in the plasma industry for close to a decade. I’m definitely still learning the ropes coming in as a new manager right in the midst of COVID-19, however, it has been very rewarding to have the opportunity to work with a team of talented leaders.

Who is your woman role model? How have they inspired/impacted you personally or professionally?

My woman role model is my mom. As a single working mother, she has always stressed the importance of furthering my education, being strong and independent, and the value of hard work.

What is your favorite quote or phrase?

“Instead of letting your hardships and failures discourage you or exhaust you, let them inspire you. Let them make you even hungrier to succeed.” – Michelle Obama

What advice would you give to young women entering your field?

Be flexible and embrace change. Seek out every learning opportunity. Be engaging and contribute. Lastly, don’t forget to smile and laugh. A great attitude and positive outlook go a long way.

Spread the girl power and help save lives with your blood donation during Women’s History Month! Find a Big Red Bus or OneBlood Donor Center near you.
