COVID-19 convalescent plasma is plasma collected from people who have recovered from COVID-19. People who recover from COVID-19 have developed antibodies to the coronavirus that remain in the plasma portion of their blood. Transfusing the plasma that contains the antibodies into a person still fighting the disease can provide a boost to the patient’s immune system and potentially help them recover. COVID-19 convalescent plasma is a treatment that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted emergency use authorization to use in treating COVID-19 patients.
The amount of collected plasma does not negatively impact your immune system.
