OneBlood Safety Protocols for Increased Dengue Fever Activity. Donors Urged to Respond to Follow-up Communications.
(October 7, 2026 - Orlando, Florida) OneBlood, the blood center serving Florida and much of the southeastern United States, is issuing an urgent call for blood and platelet donors as a tropical system approaches Florida and threatens to disrupt blood collections in parts of the state.
All blood types are needed, with an increased need for O Negative, O Positive and platelet donations to help ensure hospitals have a ready blood supply before, during and after the storm.
OneBlood is encouraging donors to schedule a donation appointment as soon as possible. Donations made now can help offset potential collection disruptions and strengthen the blood supply ahead of the storm.
“When a storm threatens our service area, blood collections can be impacted for several days. We are asking donors to step forward now. Every donation made today helps strengthen the blood supply and ensures we are ready to meet patient needs regardless of the weather,” said Susan Forbes, OneBlood’s senior vice president of corporate communications and public relations.
To make an appointment, locate a OneBlood donor center or find a Big Red Bus blood drive, visit OneBlood.org.
"When severe weather threatens our communities, maintaining a ready blood supply becomes even more critical. There is no substitute for blood. Patients in hospitals continue to need transfusions regardless of the weather,” said Forbes.
