Specialist in Blood Bank Technology/Transfusion Medicine Program

Program starts August 5. Now accepting applications.


The Specialist in Blood Bank Technology/Transfusion Medicine (SBBT/TM) Program is a 12-month online/distance professional development program beginning in August. The program includes online didactics, professional development tasks, clinical practicums and a research project that may be completed within OneBlood, Inc. facilities or at the student's location. Clinical practicums must be scheduled by each participant at approved facilities. These may include blood centers, hospital blood banks and transfusion services, or other esoteric laboratories.


The SBBT/TM program provides comprehensive and in-depth training in all aspects of blood banking, blood collection, product manufacturing, immunohematology, specialized serology, molecular testing, transfusion medicine practice, quality systems, process control, education and research, leadership, and management. It is designed to prepare individuals to become transfusion medicine specialists. Graduates of the program are awarded a certificate of completion and are eligible to take the ASCP Board of Registry examination for SBB certification.

Accreditation

The OneBlood, Inc. Specialist in Blood Bank Technology/Transfusion Medicine (SBBT/TM) Certificate Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Specialist in Blood Bank Technology and Transfusion Medicine.

Students must complete the entire program to receive a certificate of completion and be eligible to sit for the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Registry examination offered for the Specialist in Blood Bank Technology/Transfusion Medicine Program.

SBBT/TM PROGRAM FEES

  • The nonrefundable application fee to the SBBT/TM Program is $50 and is due by the application deadline.
  • Tuition is $6,000 and is due before the first full first day of orientation, unless otherwise designated.
