On June 23, 2012, my mom and I were involved in a critical car accident. We were hit head on by a Mack truck. We were both lifeflighted to Halifax Hospital as trauma patients. Unfortunately, my mom did not survive her injuries. She was taken off life support the next day. We both received several units of blood. I also received platelets during my long recovery and multiple surgeries.
I am so grateful to be alive. I now donate blood and platelets to give back for what my mom and I both received. My life was saved and I want to pay it forward by helping to save other lives.
