I donate simply because it is the right thing to do. People get sick, get in accidents or are caught in situations beyond their control where they need blood to survive. I'm healthy, take care of myself and the only thing stopping me from donating is me. It is another way for me to minimize my self-centeredness and to remind me that I have my agency because of my community.
