I am one donation away from reaching 13 gallons donated. I started donating whole blood many years ago when the Bloodmobile came to where I work. It was a simple thing to do that I knew would help someone. Once I retired, I had more free time on my hands and I thought that I would try donating platelets. I have had many friends and family members who had cancer in their life journeys to deal with.
In just this past year I learned that two of my good friends had beat their cancer after receiving platelets. So taking a couple of hours to donate, while relaxing in a comfortable 'lounger' and catching up on shows on Netflix, seems like a very small thing compared to what my friends and family members have dealt with. It feels so good to know that my platelets can really help another person who is in need. As an added bonus, the staff at my local blood center are the best and
