I give because others gave before me and saved my son's life. In 2017, my then 16 year old son was trampled in a bull riding accident. His chest and abdomen were crushed. He coded multiple times and given less than 5% chance of survival. As we were in the trauma ICU to say our goodbyes, they received word that his internal bleed was found and to call the blood bank and get him to OR stat. This was to remove the spleen that had exploded. I literally watched someone running with a blood cart to my son's surgery.
I asked one of his nurses many months later how much blood did my son receive during his hospitalization. She said "too much to count". I've donated every opportunity since then. Maybe my blood will aid in saving someone else's loved one. It is such an easy way to save a life.
