When my son was seven, he was diagnosed with a blood disorder that affects his platelets. He is 40 now and still has this blood disorder. He has received countless blood products and platelets over the years. I had thought often about giving blood, but was frightened of the needles. I’m a nurse and I understand the importance of donating so finally, I put my fear down and looked the other way in gave blood.
That was over 3 gallons ago and I’m still going! I’m amazed at how easy it is - from the time they start to the time I finish is usually less than 15 minutes. These few minutes out of my day can save someone’s life. Can help someone like my son. It’s the best decision ever!
