My husband was diagnosed with myelofibrosis at age 65 and lived a full life for three more years until his chronic anemia became life threatening. In 2018, he received a bone marrow transplant from a "perfect match donor". Although the transplant was successful, he died 6 months later due to an undetectable compromised liver, due to his disease. During his journey to full health from July 2018 until his death in March 2019, he received more than 200 blood products (red cells, platelets, plasma), all anonymously donated. Those donations were a gift of life that extended his time with his family. Our gratitude to those donors extends to this day and it's my personal "why" I donate.
