I’m 58 and started giving blood at the mobile unit when it came to my clinic I worked at. I was about 27 years old and just got out of a long relationship of over 9 years. My sister who was a nurse encouraged me to give so I did and I tried to give every 8 weeks when the mobile unit came to my work. When the mobile unit didn’t come regularly to my work, I slacked off.
Had a daughter in 1996 and she grew up to go to college and become a medical laboratory scientist and her favorite part of the lab was blood bank. She’s now a senior tech in blood bank at a local hospital and always telling me how valuable donors are in saving people’s lives, I try to give as often as I can.
