March 2024 was by far the greatest life challenge I have ever faced in my 68 years! I developed a GI bleed, and with several failed attempts by medical professionals to locate and stop the bleed, I was near death. In just a few short days, a pretty healthy man now required over 40 units of blood. I entered septic shock and spent weeks in a bubble of “will I live or not.” Today I am alive and experiencing my new normal.
I now live with Ileotomy and a prosthetic leg. But the mountains I climb I do it with a new revelation! Man cannot make blood, it is given by normal, everyday people who may never know the depth of their gift of blood. No one can understand the gravity of giving a lifeline to a faceless group of people in grave circumstances. I know this: we cannot make this miracle, it must be given. I am forever grateful and soon I hope to become a host for an event to garnish some miracles for people who need a great gift.
