For Nelson Alicea, helping others has been a lifelong pursuit.
Through his numerous blood donations, his total amount of blood donated has reached the milestone of 100 gallons. His commitment to service extends even further than his blood donation.
Over the years, he’s also shown gratitude and thanks to the many OneBlood team members who have cared for him during his 100-gallon blood donation effort.
Nelson created custom “thank you” tiles for the phlebotomists and other staff for making every donation a pleasant and memorable experience.
“I was a manager for quite a long time and a lot of times, the workers weren’t appreciated as much for the work they did," he said.
“I just felt like I needed to come up to the plate and help others who needed it.”
-Nelson
One hundred gallons donated is an unbelievable milestone that required countless hours of donating and many trips to donor centers. But even one donation can make a lifesaving difference to a hospital patient in need.
“Sometimes I wish I could give more," Nelson said. "I’ll just continue to give until I can’t anymore.”
