Back in 1989, my father became ill. To make a long story short, in the 6 months of his illness, he had at least 25 pints of blood given to him. I started donating whole blood after he passed and decided I would give at least 25 pints back for somebody else that needed it. Once I met that goal, I just kept donating. I got married and then I lost my husband to cancer.
When approached about doing platelets, I found it fascinating and decided to do that instead of whole blood. Here we are in 2025, and I just hit the 46-gallon mark. I hope to make it to the 100-gallon milestone. I post pictures and window stickers on my personal FB page in hopes of planting a seed with somebody, that they realize how important they can be in helping to save the life of somebody. What a beautiful gift to give to somebody, especially to a stranger!
