As a person now in my 60’s I can’t remember why I started giving blood but I have been doing it since I was old enough to do so. I guess it has probably been several gallons donated over the past half a century but I think of it as a way to give back & help somebody that doesn’t cost me anything but 30 minutes or so of my time. I am a universal donor so that was also motivation. A few years ago it did become personal when my husband needed a transfusion during a surgery. That definitely helped his recovery.
