My father was diagnosed with extra pulmonary small cell carcinoma in January 2017. He was a strong man, determined to fight to stay in the lives of his grandchildren. The cancer was aggressive, requiring multiple blood transfusions - roughly six units every time. Tragically we lost this fight with cancer, but I was determined to help. Knowing what I now know about how much blood is required for a single cancer patient, I committed myself to give as often as possible. I have been giving blood regularly - roughly once a quarter.
