This is not my story but my daughter’s. Winter was born on 10/10/07 weighing in at 3 pounds, 10 ounces. She was born three weeks early, yet other than being small, she seemed perfectly healthy.
Three days later, as we were waiting for our release papers to be signed, she quit breathing. After being air lifted to Winnie Palmer Hospital, we were told that she was suffering from neonatal septicemia and it was causing her organs to shut down simultaneously.
They gave her a 10% chance of survival. She had to undergo several transfusions to flush the infected blood.
Today she is a happy healthy 7-year-old girl. I am forever grateful to all the blood donors. Without you my baby girl would not be alive. I am now a regular donor myself, giving other parents of sick children out there the same gift that was once given to me, the gift of life.
