As a high school biology teacher, I teach students about the genetics behind blood donation. I point out to them that we need blood donors because the only source for a blood product is another human being. I also make the point that, if we live long enough, we or someone close to us will need a transfusion. Most people will never be in a position to save another person's life, but a blood donor has that potential every time they donate. I encourage everyone who is eligible to donate while they can. Striving to live that message, I have now passed the 27 gallon mark with One Blood.
